After several years without visiting one of the joys of my youth I went to see my Santa Cruz Futebol Clube - the club of the poor people of my state - which I identify with and have great pride on its origin - - - they never prohibited colored players to join the club.
The stadium - the fourth largest in the world owned by a private club (built with the help of many - - - even the ugly military government we had for 22 years tried to help - I wish we had said no) continues to be so beautiful!!!
It was a magnificent Sunday afternoon - and we won - but it didn't matter. The fun is to be there and witness the passion for the beautiful game via the club of your heart - fed by music which moves your body and soul. I joined the crowd / general attendance area (though I own a chair at the prime location in the stadium) - - - it is so much more interesting from there - where the real people celebrate, and could not help and shared a tear when we scored a goal and I witnessed the momentary happiness of many who will not have much more to rejoice for the rest of the week.

As the sun set in the southern hemisphere classical fashion and the flood lights brought a special brilliance to the spectacle I prayed that many of my fellow soccer fans could come to know The One who was the cause for the suggestive name of the club (The Blessed Cross).
Cheers,
Cheers,
Paulo
PS - Soccer / Football: one of the few things Jack got wrong - - ;-)
but he acknowldged its role and importance when he said:
"The settled happiness and security which we all desire, God withholds from us by the very nature of the world: but joy, pleasure, and merriment He has scattered broadcast. We are never safe, but we have plenty of fun, and some ecstasy. It is not hard to see why. The security we crave would teach us to rest our hearts in this world and oppose an obstacle to our return to God: a few moments of happy love, a landscape, . . . or a football match, have no such tendency. Our Father refreshes us on the journey with some pleasant inns, but will not encourage us to mistake them for home. "
